Facing numerous challenges, Arbaeen pilgrims set out this journey should the challenges are met. This study, therefore, deals with the challenges of Iranian pilgrims during the Arbaeen walk and the way they deal with the problem. The required data were collected through "ethnography", using "grounded theory" to analyze the data. To this end, 39 pilgrims who participated in Arbaeen 2018 walk were interviewed along the way to Karbala. The challenges regarding decision-making were summarized in the main category labeled as "the challenges regarding obstacles and lack of requirements". The challenges listed under the "the lack of requirements" includes: "travel expenses," "ability to walk," "finding the right (appropriate) fellow traveler", "providing a suitable time for travel", "the possibility of achieving the goal", "travel facilities like transportation, accommodation, food, health, familiarity with the way and destination". The major sub-categories of "obstacles challenges" include: "prohibition made by such actors as the government, employer, training centers, spouse, and parents", "conflicting interests derived from job commitment, child- care commitment, and social pressure generated by fellow citizens and commitment to them", and "feeling insecure". «سفر زیارتی اربعین» به شکل پیاده، در باور مذهبی ایرانیان جایگاه برجسته‌ای دارد. زائر پیاده اربعین برای این سفر با چالش‌های متعددی روبرو است که در صورت حل آن‌ها، تصمیم به این سفر مي­گيرد. این نوشتار به چالش‌های تصمیم‌گیری زائر پیاده ایرانی در سفر اربعین و شیوه حل مسئله توسط او پرداخته است. روش مورد استفاده، برای گردآوری داده‌ها «مردم‌نگاری» و برای تحلیل داده‌ها، گام‌های مورد استفاده در روش «رویش نظریه‌» است. در پژوهش حاضر با 39 زائر پیاده اربعین 1397 ه.ش. در مسیر پیاده‌روی مصاحبه شده ‌است. چالش‌های تصمیم‌گیری در ­یک ­مقوله مرکزی «چالش فقدان مقتضیات و وجود موانع» خلاصه می‌شود. آن دسته از­ چالش‌هایی ­که­ زیر عنوان «چالش فقدان مقتضیات» جای ­می­گیرند: «تأمین هزینه سفر»، «توانایی پیاده‌روی»، «یافتن همسفر مناسب»، «فراهم کردن وقت مناسب برای سفر»، «امکان دستیابی به مقصود»، «امکانات سفر پیاده ازجمله وسایل نقلیه، اسکان، تغذیه، بهداشت» و «آشنایی به راه و مقصد» است. مقوله‌های عمده‌ زیرمجموعه‌ «چالش وجود موانع» عبارت‌اند از: «ممانعت کنشگرانی مانند دولت، کارفرما، مراکز آموزشی، همسر و والدین»، «تزاحم‌های ناشی از: تعهد شغلی، تعهد نگهداری از فرزندان و فشار اجتماعی تولیدشده از سوی هم‌وطنان و تعهد به آن‌ها» و «احساس ناامنی». http://localhost:44365/en/Article/Download/36044
