Therefore, this study sought to analyze the tourists’ motivations for traveling to the coastal cities of Mazandaran province, taking a distinct anthropological perspective by highlighting the concepts of leisure trips. As ethnography is the main method used by anthropologists to discover the elements existing in a field, this study used a qualitative method with an emphasis on ethnography. Primary data were collected through participant observation and semi-structured in-depth interviews. To this end, 16 tourists who had visited the three coastal cities of Mahmoud Abad, Fereydoonknar, and Babolsar were selected via purposive sampling. The collected data were then analyzed using a three-stage coding system. In this regard, first, three categories, including "a place with a different structure", "in search of novel experiences", and "suspension" were identified. Finally, after performing the selective coding, the core category of "rites of passage" was extracted. According to the study’s results, it appears that the tourists who travel to the cities mentioned above for recreational purposes experience a mixed feeling of suspension and freedom from the requirements and responsibilities of daily life during the trip, which could be considered similar to the second phase of the theory of rites of passage. با توجه به ارتباط انگیزه‌های گردشگران و نوع و گونه‌ی سفر آن‌ها، به دست آوردن دیدی روشن و منطقی از چنین روندی می‌تواند شایان اهمیت باشد. از این رو این پژوهش به دنبال واکاوی انگیزه‌های گردشگران از سفر به شهرهای ساحلی استان مازندران با دیدی متفاوت و انسان‌شناسانه و از خلال هویت بخشیدن به مفهوم سفرهای تفریحی است. از آن‌جا که مردم‌نگاری ابزار اصلی انسان‌شناسان در کشف عناصر میدان است، در این پژوهش نیز از روش‌شناسی کیفی با تأکید بر مردم‌نگاری بهره برده شده است. داده‌های اصلی از طریق مشاهده‌ی مشارکتی و مصاحبه‌ها‌ی عمیق و نیمه ساختار یافته به دست آمد. پاسخ‌دهندگان 16 نفر از گردشگرانِ سه شهر ساحلی محمودآباد، فریدونکنار و بابلسر بودند که با استفاده از نمونه‌گیری هدفمند انتخاب شدند. برای تجزیه و تحلیل داده‌ها نیز از نظام کدگذاری سه مرحله‌ای استفاده شد، بدین صورت که ابتدا مقوله‌های «مکانی با ساختاری متفاوت»، «در جستجوی تجربیات جدید» و «تعلیق» و در نهایت پس از کدگذاری گزینشی مقوله‌ هسته‌ی «مناسک گذار» به دست آمد. به نظر می‌رسد گردشگرانی که به قصد تفریح به این شهرها سفر می‌کنند حسی آمیخته از تعلیق و رهایی از الزامات و مسئولیت‌های زندگی روزمره را در سفر تجربه می‌کنند که می توان آن را مشابه به مرحله‌ی دوم در نظریه‌ی مناسک گذار دانست. http://localhost:44365/en/Article/Download/35691
