Although cities have already had a prominent place in the past, changes in power and levels of power have increased the role of subordinate actors that have shaped geopolitical debates on cities. The purpose of this paper is to understand and understand the general history, philosophical nature, reason, and definitions of urban geopolitics as a new and expanding issue. Therefore, in this paper for analyzing the information, content analysis method has been used. By examining the history of the formation of the city's geopolitical concept and its existing definitions, it became clear that the concept and nature of urban geopolitics are not well defined, as is necessary and desirable. Thus, the authors consider the geopolitical philosophical nature of the city to be the geographic resources of power, with emphasis on the city, the space of cities and their sphere of influence, and its relations at the levels (local, national, regional, global). The results of the general survey of urban geopolitical conceptualizations in the researches show that proper conceptualization of urban geopolitics is not necessary. Based on this, one can consider urban geopolitics in terms of four dimensions (location, actors, function, and discourse). تحولات صورت گرفته در عرصه های مختلف زمینه ساز شکلدهی به مباحث جدید در عرصه مطالعه در حوزه شهرها به عنوان پدیده های فضایی- جغرافیایی می‌باشند. اگر چه شهرها در گذشته نیز از اهمیت و جایگاه برجسته برخوردار بوده اند، اما تغییرات صورت گرفته پیرامون قدرت و سطوح قدرت، افزایش نقش آفرینی بازیگران فروملی زمینه ساز شکل دهی به مباحث ژئوپلیتیک در زمینه شهرها را فراهم آورده است. هدف نوشتار حاضر، شناخت و درک تاریخچه کلی، ماهیت فلسفی، چرایی، تعاریف موجود در زمینه ژئوپلیتیک شهری به عنوان یک بحث جدید و رو به گسترش می باشد. از این رو در این نوشتار جهت تحلیل اطلاعات بیان شده، از روش تحلیل محتوا بهره گرفته شده است. با بررسی تاریخچه شکل گیری مفهوم ژئوپلیتیک شهری و تعاریف موجود از آن مشخص شد آنطور که بایسته و شایسته است مفهوم و ماهیت ژئوپلیتیک شهری به خوبی مشخص نشده است. بدین ترتیب نگارندگان ماهیت فلسفی ژئوپلیتیک شهری را منابع جغرافیایی قدرت با تأکید بر شهر، فضای شهرها و حوزه نفوذ آنها و مناسبات شکل گرفته از آن در سطوح (محلی، ملی، منطقه ای، جهانی) می دانند. نتایج بررسی کلی مفهوم سازی های صورت گرفته از ژئوپلیتیک شهری در کارهای مورد بررسی نشان دهنده آن است که آن گونه که بایسته و شایسته است مفهوم سازی درستی از ژئوپلیتیک شهری صورت نگرفته است. بر این مبنا، می توان ژئوپلیتیک شهری را در قالب چهار بعد (مکانی، بازیگران، کارکردی و گفتمان) در نظر گرفت و تعریف کرد.
